Hazardous Materials

Blue Rock has been traveling this month helping the State of Ohio with a Hazardous Materials Commodity Flow Study.

The USEPA defines a Hazardous Material as any material that is a physical, biological, or chemical item which has the potential to cause harm to living organisms or the environment. A Hazardous Materials Management Plan defines the procedures and methods for identifying materials that need special handling and/or processes to minimize the risk of their unsafe use and disposal.

The Emergency Planning and Community
Right-to-Know Act
On December 4, 1984, methyl isocyanate, an extremely toxic chemical escaped from a Union Carbide chemical plant in Bhopal, India. Thousands died and many more were injured.
In response to these concerns, Congress passed the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) in 1986.
